Thanks Merlyn!
The Vermont State Board of Education has embarked on a public engagement process regarding the future of education in Vermont. Read The Future of Education in Vermont, the State Board of Education and Commissioner Richard Cate’s vision for the future.
If you have not renewed your VSLA membership since before last year’s Spring Conference, your membership expired as of June 30. Please renew very soon, so I don’t have to remove you from the listserv on November 1.
We’ve been adding pictures of our libraries to our flickr pool. Enjoy!
Banned Books Week is coming up (September 29—October 6) and the VSLA Board encourages you to celebrate intellectual freedom and explore the issue of censorship with students in your libraries.
Here is a list of online resources on this topic.
It’s time to take pride in all that hard work we do. Share photos of your library and they’ll appear here on our site.

(You’re right, the pictures to the right are NOT of a school library, but rather the public library in Provincetown Ma. I just got back from vacation. Send me some pictures so I can replace these!)
Through two recent online surveys, our membership overwhelmingly approved the decision to change our organization’s name to more aptly describe who we are. Two choices were presented for a vote at the annual meeting on May 15th, and after a lively discussion, the members present voted to change our organization’s name to the Vermont School Library Association (VSLA). We will soon begin work on switching over our web page to a new domain, as well as developing a new logo.
